Graduation Day

Congrats to our son, who graduated from high school on June 9, Class of 2023!

We're proud to report that he graduated with California Scholarship Federation (CSF) Honors, which gave him the privilege of wearing a gold stash and tassel.

In addition, in a separate ceremony with his visual and performing arts academy (AVPA) program held on June 4— through which he participated in the marching band and jazz program—he received Most Outstanding Member of Jazz Ensemble, Most Outstanding Music Ensemble as a member of the Gig Jazz Combo, and was one of several Music Students of the Year for his contributions to the music program over four years.

Below are videos of both the graduation and AVPA ceremonies, condensed to just over 1 minute each!

For Immediate Release

Rob Hanes Adventures

But when one of the show’s stars is kidnapped during an overseas junket, Rob learns first hand why there's no business like show business!

Then get ready for milestone issue 25, featuring an unforgettable adventure that will take the series back to its adventure strip roots! More info coming soon!

And remember, all back issues of Rob Hanes Adventures are still available at wcgcomics.com—with issues 1–8 also available in trade paperback.

About the Series

Inspired by the great soldier-of-fortune comic strips of the 1930s and ‘40s, Rob Hanes Adventures is a modern-day, light-hearted action-adventure series about a private eye and troubleshooter from Justice International who travels the world on assignment, facing danger, intrigue and romance at every turn. In addition to high adventure, the series has occasionally playfully strayed into other genres, like drawing room mysteries, sports and romance. Every story is self-contained, making it easy for readers to jump in with any issue.

Creator-writer-artist Randy Reynaldo is a 2018 recipient of San Diego Comic-Con's prestigious Inkpot Award for Achievement in Comic Arts. The late cartoonist and comics historian R.C. Harvey called the long-running series “one of the industry’s quietest treasures.” Next year, 2024, marks the series' 30th anniversary.

High School Jazz Ensemble Finale

A clip from our son's last major high school music appearance this past weekend—on the drums with the school's jazz ensemble, performing Gordon Goodwin's "Absoludicrous" with virtuoso guest artist and instructor Azuri Moon on guitar.

This event was the end of the school year fundraising gala for the school's visual and performing arts academy that includes programs for music (orchestra, marching band and jazz), film, theatre, visual art, and dance. (Our daughter went through the visual arts program.)

The following day, the program had its graduation and awards ceremony—he was one of several students to receive a Music Student of the Year for his work and growth over the past four years as a percussionist and his work this year as co-leader of the percussion section. (He also was recognized for his work on the jazz ensemble and the gig combo, which performed at events in the community, including a fundraiser this spring at one of L.A.'s premiere performing arts venue, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in downtown L.A.) Can't believe he graduates high school at the end of this week!
