This event was the end of the school year fundraising gala for the school's visual and performing arts academy that includes programs for music (orchestra, marching band and jazz), film, theatre, visual art, and dance. (Our daughter went through the visual arts program.)
The following day, the program had its graduation and awards ceremony—he was one of several students to receive a Music Student of the Year for his work and growth over the past four years as a percussionist and his work this year as co-leader of the percussion section. (He also was recognized for his work on the jazz ensemble and the gig combo, which performed at events in the community, including a fundraiser this spring at one of L.A.'s premiere performing arts venue, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in downtown L.A.)
Can't believe he graduates high school at the end of this week!
